Inspired by the Forms and Textures of Nature

I’m Karen, a feltmaker and textile artist with a passion for colour, form and texture.

Using the ancient art of wet felting, I “paint” with wool – layering wool, silk, and plant fibres, I capture the raw beauty of the British Landscape and translate it into beautiful accessories and artwork for you and your home.

My work is an invitation to pause, to touch, and to reconnect with the rugged, delicate beauty of the natural world.

Yeah!! Rob and I have both finally retired, so we Yeah!! Rob and I have both finally retired, so we can now concentrate much more on our artistic pursuits (in-between walking our very demanding collie, that is😄). Rob has begun painting and I'm returning to some fabric art as well as my felting. We're so looking forward to more relaxed times. We've already begun plans for an art exhibition next year! 😁

The colours are so rich! Peaty water, lime green leaves, deep blue and green of deep water and hugged by a canopy of trees everywhere. Bliss!!

Workshop opportunity! And here is the finished wo Workshop opportunity!

And here is the finished work from yesterday. Quite pleased with it as a sample. The second photo shows my characteristic deep relief on the tree. I love the stream too. That was a happy accident! Now need a title. What do you suggest? If you would like to learn how to create this, I'll be running a workshop at Arnesby village hall on Sun 11th October. Please let me know and I'll pass your names on to the organiser.

"Hi Karen,
I just wanted to say thank you so much for the wet felting poppy field kit. I'm not at all artistic, but thoroughly enjoyed doing this kit and am very pleased with the result. The picture is proudly on display in our front room, overlooking our garden of poppies. The instructions were clear and plenty of materials. I am going to use the spare wool to make my own picture and maybe some poppy felt cards. I am looking forward to seeing more of your kits."

Thank you very much, Lesley. You have just made my day!!

When you go for a walk, do you naturally take in t When you go for a walk, do you naturally take in the whole vista, or do you notice the details?

I have always been a whole scene sort of person and find inspiration in beautiful landscapes. My husband has always looked at the details. Today, he pointed out the fabulous colours, movement and reflections in the water that we were walking around. It was slightly breezy and the wind was creating some beautiful ripples and fabulous colour shifts.

They reminded me of the stunning wallhangings of @reenacurpheytextiles and made me determined to have another go at creating an abstract wallhanging based on detail. It's completely out of my comfort zone but I'm determined to do it! Her course "Wallhanging- the art of Felting" is superb. If you want to learn a range of techniques to create abstract felt art, do check it out.

Some kind words

Thank you for a very enjoyable workshop yesterday. We are all thrilled with our seascapes. You were very informative, we learnt a lot about the materials we were using and the techniques were carefully explained & demonstrated.

We had a great day and really enjoyed it I am thrilled with my picture. I went to show it to my son and daughter in law (they gave me the vouchers for Christmas) they were impressed. I’m sure we’ll be coming back for some more sessions. Thank you so much

Thanks so much for the workshop yesterday – I really enjoyed it. I’ve attached my picture – the colours and textures look great! I didn’t know much about felting prior to the workshop, but I really enjoyed the physicality of the processes, the artistry of choosing colour and texture and the magic of putting all the elements together and not really knowing how it was going to turn out until the end! The location was lovely, it was well paced. I’ll definitely recommend the course to my friends.

Karen’s workshop was such an enjoyable day, from her warm welcome to the well planned and fabulously resourced tuition. She is a patient and encouraging tutor drawing on her wealth of experience. A perfect course for learning about wet felting.

I really enjoyed the seascape workshop – a present from my son and daughter. I’ve shown it to a few people and they are very impressed. It’s all down to your excellent tuition!

We really enjoyed the session and the pictures have turned out really well – see the attached! We really fancy the autumn scene picture – I’ll keep an eye out for when you’re running one of those!

Absolutely fabulous day! Karen is a super teacher and very thorough in her tutoring. She has an amazing array of wools to work with and both of us came away with superb pictures that will definitely be framed!

Just to let you know that the Handbag has arrived and I am delighted with it.
Thankyou so much for making it for me.
I will send you a photograph of my outfit with the handbag when we have our Granddaughter’s Wedding

Just a quick note to thank you for the 2 courses I went on this year…. Thoroughly enjoyed them and have been buying bits and pieces ever since.

I really enjoyed the workshop.  Karen explained everything so well and we all achieved so much!  We didn’t expect to come away with such a lovely picture!
